Traditional, handcrafted one of a kind Muggle and Witch brooms for clearing and cleansing all your spaces.
Since the 1300's, besom brooms have been a symbol of female power, both as masters of domesticity and folk magic. From simple chores to everyday witchcraft, this classic broom never gets swept under the rug! An iconic symbol and tool of the Old Ways and utilitarian in form and function. Locally harvested handles and broomcorn, the most 'traditional' broom of all time!
Sweepers are pressed tight so they can be sewn flat & then trimmed off straight across the bottom for greater sweeping coverage. This design originated in America during the early 1800s within the Shaker communities. Using freshly harvested stalks of broomcorn, either hand dyed or natural, these brooms are hand-plaited onto custom-made, hand-finished hardwood handles fashioned from local, sustainable & ecologically harvested timber. A hanging strap allows for proper care of your broom.
Cobwebber brooms have been the go-to broom for ceilings and hard to reach places and even collecting those cobwebs from your arachnid friends when they get too dusty. Locally harvested handles and broomcorn, a broom coveted by proud homeowners for centuries!
Centuries before the besom there was the Shag broom, bound with twigs, sticks and wild plants from prairie and forest, used for sweeping energy and enhancing magical workings. The "wild grandmother" of the besom, no witch should be without this primordial craft tool. Made with layers of brilliant colored broomcorn fastened on sustainable hard wood or bamboo handles.
Hearth brooms have a special place in the home. These "tenders to the embers" keep the fireplace clean and orderly. A symbol of the fireplace itself, a balance of wild natural energy and gentle domesticity.
Wedding aka Handfasting brooms have a steeped folk history in the Deep South's pre-emancipation slave culture as well as the British Isles of ancient times. Though the traditions differ in some ways, both share the custom of bride and groom jumping over of the broom, signifying the union. Made with love from hardwood handles and broomcorn. Please allow 6-8 weeks for completion. We customize to make your wedding broom one-of-a-kind!
These delightfully rustic brooms harken back to a time when brooms used simple long grasses from prairie and farm. Using the entire stalk of broom corn and made in the time-honored tradition without the use of machinery. These brooms are both utilitarian and decorative, reminding us that simple times are still here with us, if we only but put it into action.
small , decorative yet practical for cleaning, cleansing, and clearing your space
A traditional Southern Style broom based off the shape of, as the name suggests, a hawk's tail. First popular in Appalachia and the Ozarks, ideal for cleaning up small household messes or as a shop tool. Crafted from local broom corn and made in the traditional way in a variety of colors.
Prior to 1757 Colonial Americans used real turkey wings to sweep crumbs off of their tables, using it with a dust pan as an arrangement. Benjamin Franklin, desiring to make the turkey the national bird, promoted broom makers to fashion a broom imitating the shape and function of the wing. Made with local broomcorn in the traditional colonial way.
Rooster tail brooms date from early Colonial America and are here thanks to Benjamin Franklin protecting his beloved turkeys from having their wings used as sweeping implements. Once he brought broom corn to America, not only were turkey wing brooms born, but soon after roosters across the colonies could breath a sigh of relief that their tails would also be spared the same fate, even if they themselves could not be spared the pot. Made from local broom corn in the traditional colonial style.
While there is much debate between colonial farmers as to who invented the whisk, it never wavers that the intention was to help women clean the home. Initially using twigs and grasses from around the farm, broom corn was used after it was allegedly introduced by Benjamin Franklin. The whisk while being the simplest of brooms, stands alone in the honor and respect of being one of the oldest, and often decorated with herbs to add a pleasant appearance and aroma to it's use.
The primordial energy of the stag has been utilized for millennia both in physical and metaphysical form. In broom lore the combination of broom corn and stag horn symbolize a balance of female and male energies. These energies are used for grounding, purifying and balance in and out of the circle or the home. Utilitarian for hearth and home as well, these brooms represent a great balance for those who straddle this world and the next.
Corn of earth, bone of deer, with this broom I sweep away fear! The bone sweeper combines the grounded energy of earth with the power and guidance of our ancestors who often kept bones as doorways to commune with those passed on. With one half in this world and the other half in the next, this broom is energetically designed to help in communication in all realms and workings.
The Springbok is considered one of the holiest of animals in South Africa and is favored by the Sun God of the region.
